Spruce Pine NC
With a population just over 2,000, the town of Spruce Pine NC is
a hidden gem community in the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge
Mountains.
Known for being the Gem and Mineral Capital of North America,
Spruce Pine features numerous gem mines and mining companies
with exciting and family friendly excursions to search for
Crabtree emerald, Wiseman and Brushy Creek aquamarine,
moonstones, garnet, citrine, amethyst, ruby, and sapphire.
Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Mitchell County,
Spruce Pine NC offers endless outdoor activities, beautiful
mountain vistas and easy access to the neighboring communities
of Linville NC and Little Switzerland NC. Spruce Pine was
recently named a "Mountain Heritage Trout City." Flowing just
outside of Bear Den Campground, Grassy Creek and the North Toe
River provide crystal clear, unspoiled waters for NC Fly Fishing
and Trout Fishing in NC.
Additionally, Spruce Pine NC is well known for its downtown
festivals and excellent Christmas tree farms. Founded in 1907 by
the activity spurred by the Clinchfield Railroad and mining
industry, Spruce Pine was the largest town in the Toe River
Valley at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, Spruce
Pine's economy is centered on tourism. The combination of
fishing, NC Gem Mining, proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and
the Blue Ridge Escarpment propel Spruce Pine NC to the forefront
of High Country destinations.
Bear Den Campground is located in the heart of Spruce Pine NC,
directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 324.8. We also
offer a beautiful Spruce Pine NC Cabin Rental at Big Bear Cabin.
The cabin and campground afford the best of convenience,
amenities and beauty in Spruce Pine NC for the perfect Blue
Ridge Mountain get-a-way.
